Introducing Lava Card

Today we’re happy to announce that Lava Card is officially live. You can apply for the card in just a few minutes directly in the app on mobile or web.

Lava Card is a secured Visa credit card that allows you to earn bitcoin every time you spend. There’s no annual fee, no FX fees, no minimum spend, and it can be used anywhere in the world that Visa is accepted.

Our mission at Lava is to help you build your long-term bitcoin savings. We started by making it easy to buy bitcoin, hold it, and borrow against it to access liquidity without having to sell. With Lava Card, we’re adding spending to the mix. Lava Card allows you to earn bitcoin rewards with every purchase, helping you build your long-term savings via your daily spend.

We also built Lava Card to solve the frustration that many users have with complex card rewards programs. It’s a pain point we’ve felt ourselves— keeping track of points, transferring them to different vendors, trying to calculate their value in different scenarios, and weighing them against steep annual fees. We replaced that with a better mechanic: spend dollars and earn bitcoin. You don’t have to worry about fees, you don’t have to manage points, and you know exactly how much value you’ve earned from your spending. Earn Bitcoin Rewards

Lava Card offers up to 5% back in bitcoin every time you spend.

To celebrate our launch, we’re offering 5% back in bitcoin on purchases with Amazon, Apple, and Netflix to all Lava Card users. We’ll be announcing additional merchant partnerships that offer extra bitcoin back to users over the next few months.

Rewards are issued as soon as your transaction settles, and you can see them accumulate in the Lava app. Most everyday purchases qualify for rewards, though a small set of merchant categories may be excluded by our card partners. For additional information on rewards rates, see this FAQ.

Pay Zero Fees

Lava Card has no annual fee, zero FX fees, and zero spread on foreign currency transactions. You earn bitcoin every time you spend, and you never have to worry about hidden fees eating into your rewards.

Most institutions add an extra conversion fee on top of Visa’s official exchange rate. Lava does not. This makes Lava Card a true global card: you can spend internationally at the lowest rate while still earning bitcoin rewards.

Fund Your Account Multiple Ways

Lava Card is a secured credit card, which means which means you spend directly from your dollar balance on Lava and can only spend dollars you have available. Lava Card does not offer unsecured credit.

In order to spend, you must have USD in your available dollar balance. You can choose from multiple methods to add USD to Lava:

Borrow against your bitcoin
Use Lava’s BLOC to borrow dollars against your bitcoin at the lowest rates.*

Deposit stablecoins
You can send stablecoins to Lava for instantaneous deposits, 24/7.

Send from your bank
You can transfer funds directly to Lava from your local bank account.

You can use Lava’s direct deposit feature to get your paycheck right into your Lava account.

Use Lava Card with the BLOC

Lava’s bitcoin line of credit (BLOC) allows you to borrow dollars instantly using your bitcoin as collateral, with the lowest fixed rates in the industry.
